The tomb of Imam Muhammad ibn Ismail al-Bukhari, the renowned compiler of the most authentic hadith collection in Sunni Islam, is located in the village of Khartank, about 10 kilometers outside the historic city of Samarkand, Uzbekistan. He passed away in 870 CE (256 AH) while traveling to Samarkand at the invitation of its residents, and was buried at this very site. Today, his resting place is a magnificent memorial complex, featuring a grand mosque, a library, a museum, and lush gardens. The site underwent major renovations in recent years, including the construction of a large new mosque that can accommodate around 10,000 worshippers.
